The Gold Standard for academics in Effingham
At Edenbrook, academic excellence is measured by how deeply children learn to think, question, create, and understand. Our certified educators pair proven teaching practices with intentional class sizes, rich curriculum, and hands-on discovery to create an education that is both rigorous and alive with wonder. Currently pursuing full accredited through Cognia as a National Association of University-Model Schools Affiliate.
Academic Excellence, Without Compromise.
We believe families should never have to choose between a deeply Christian education and an academically exceptional one.
Edenbrook carefully selects established, academically rigorous curriculum and resources designed to build knowledge and develop mastery from one grade level to the next. Our curriculum choices are made intentionally, with an emphasis on strong academic standards, proven instructional practices, and preparation for increasingly advanced coursework.
The goal is not simply to make school harder. It is to make learning deeper. Students are challenged to understand concepts, communicate ideas, solve problems, make connections, and develop the habits necessary to become confident, capable learners. By establishing these foundations early, we seek to give Edenbrook students an academic advantage as they progress toward middle school, high school, college, and beyond.

Not every curriculum earns a place at Edenbrook.
Our academic team thoughtfully evaluates curriculum and instructional resources for academic rigor, developmental appropriateness, instructional quality, continuity between grade levels, and alignment with Edenbrook's Christian worldview and educational philosophy.
Rather than selecting materials simply because they are convenient or popular, we choose resources that support a coherent progression of learning. Each year should build intentionally upon the year before it—strengthening foundational skills while steadily introducing greater depth, independence, and complexity.
And because excellent curriculum is only one part of excellent education, our teachers bring those resources to life through thoughtful instruction, discussion, hands-on learning, reinforcement, and meaningful application.

At Edenbrook, we want students to develop genuine mastery of foundational concepts. Our teachers look beyond whether a student can produce the correct answer and work to ensure children understand the why behind what they are learning. This means providing opportunities to practice, discuss, apply, revisit, and connect important concepts. It also means recognizing that children do not all learn in exactly the same way or at exactly the same pace.
Our classrooms are intentionally designed to allow teachers to know their students, recognize where additional support may be needed, and identify opportunities for greater challenge.

At Edenbrook, a biblical worldview is not something added to an otherwise secular education. It is the lens through which education is understood.
We believe all truth ultimately belongs to God. Mathematics reveals order. Science invites wonder at creation. History provides opportunities to consider human nature, wisdom, consequence, and providence. Literature allows students to wrestle with courage, beauty, sacrifice, truth, and the human experience.
Our goal is to teach children not merely what to think, but how to think carefully, critically, and biblically—developing the discernment necessary to engage confidently with ideas as they grow.

The Best of School. The Best of Home. Edenbrook's University-Model approach recognizes something traditional education can easily overlook: parents remain the most influential people in a child's life.
Our model brings together the expertise and structure of professional classroom instruction with intentional learning at home. Teachers lead instruction, establish academic expectations, provide resources, and guide student progress, while parents remain meaningfully engaged in their child's education.
Home-learning days are not simply “days off” from school. They are an intentional extension of the classroom experience, allowing students to reinforce concepts, complete purposeful assignments, develop independence, and experience learning within the rhythms of family life. The result is neither traditional school nor traditional homeschool. It is a genuine partnership between school and home.
The Foundations
Throughout Kindergarten through 5th grade, Edenbrook students develop strong foundations across the essential areas of elementary learning.
-
Students develop confident reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, comprehension, and communication skills—with increasing exposure to meaningful literature and increasingly sophisticated written expression.
-
Students build mathematical fluency alongside conceptual understanding, developing the ability to reason, recognize patterns, solve problems, and confidently apply mathematical concepts.
-
Science invites students to observe, investigate, question, and better understand the extraordinary order and complexity of God's creation through age-appropriate study and hands-on exploration.
-
Students develop an understanding of people, places, cultures, events, government, and the ideas that have shaped our world while learning to thoughtfully consider history through a biblical worldview.
-
Biblical truth is not confined to a single class period. Scripture provides the foundation from which students learn to understand truth, character, relationships, purpose, and the world around them.
